Man held captive at Vancouver's Shangri-La tower rescued by police

Three people were arrested by Vancouver police after officers were called to the luxurious Shangri-La condominium complex to rescue a man said to have been held there against his will in one of the apartments.

According to police, officers rescued a 21-year-old male hiding in a room after receiving a 911 call at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Patrol officers and members of the emergency response team searched the hotel and found the victim, who was suffering facial injuries.

He had apparently escaped his captors and had taken refuge in another room.

Police said two suspects fled from the adjoining hotel in a vehicle but were tracked down and captured near the Burrard Bridge.

The ERT unit arrested a third suspect in one of the condo units at about 9:30 p.m.

The suspects are expected to face a number of charges including forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.
